MMG / Research + Experimental Systems
EMO
Applied Research Initiative
Researching intelligent systems that can observe, reason, act and verify.
EMO is an applied research initiative within MMG exploring the architecture of dependable AI systems operating across software, local computing, information infrastructure and the physical world.
01 — The Idea
Beyond the
chatbot.
EMO investigates what happens when AI is treated as an operating system for real work rather than a standalone conversational interface.
The research centers on the systems around the model: permissions, tools, local infrastructure, memory, evidence, verification and the ability to interact safely with software and physical environments.
The EMO Operating Loop
Observe → Verify → Record
OBSERVE
DETECT CHANGE
CHECK PERMISSIONS
DECIDE
ACT
VERIFY
RECORD EVIDENCE
A governed loop — not a single prompt. Every action is bounded, verified and recorded as evidence.
02 — Research Areas
Five directions,
one governed system.
EMO organizes its work around five research areas — each a facet of building dependable intelligent systems for the real world.
Governed AI Systems
Permissions, policy, verification, audit trails and autonomous agents designed to operate with explicit boundaries.
Permissions · Policy · Verification · Audit Trails · Autonomous Agents
Local & Offline Intelligence
AI systems that continue to function when cloud access is unavailable, undesirable or unreliable.
Offline-First · Local Compute · Edge AI · Dependability
Human + Machine Infrastructure
Connecting software intelligence to communications, sensors, audio, lighting, networks and physical systems.
Sensors · Audio · Lighting · Networking · Physical Systems
Information Intelligence
Turning continuous real-world data streams into structured evidence, historical state and decision support.
Data Streams · Historical State · Evidence · Decision Support
Machine Collaboration
Multi-agent architectures, specialized models and distributed compute coordinated as one governed system.
Multi-Agent · Specialized Models · Distributed Compute · Coordination
03 — Active Projects
Working systems,
in progress.
Active research and experiments. These are working systems under development — not claims that every project is a finished product.
04 — Blogs
Blogs
Research and field notes — analytical, technically literate, grounded. Written as the work progresses, not after the fact.
05 — Working Principles
Build. Test. Verify.
Learn.
EMO is intentionally experimental. The goal is not to pretend every prototype is a product.
The goal is to create working systems, test assumptions in the real world, document failures and discoveries, and turn the strongest ideas into dependable infrastructure.
Build
Create working systems, not just proposals.
Test
Run them against real conditions and real data.
Verify
Confirm outcomes matched intent — do not assume.
Learn
Document failures and discoveries honestly.
